RICHARD PETTY 1970 SUPERBIRD 1/24 AUTO WORLD
Richard Petty was lured back to Plymouth in 1970 with the development of the new winged Plymouth Superbird. Chrysler had to produce more than 1500 of the new models (1920 were built) to gain acceptance from NASCAR to enter Grand National competition, all necessary to reacquire the services of NASCARs leading driver. The Superbird did well on the track, placing high in several races, and winning eight for the season. Banned from NASCAR after the 1970 season, due to stricter engine displacement regulations, the distinctive styling and significance for bringing Petty back to Plymouth have made this car an instantly recognizable icon, and important part of NASCAR history.
